Azoospermia factor (AZF) region of the Y chromosome
Synonyms: Y chromosome infertility
Overview
Y chromosome infertility is predominantly caused by microdeletions of the azoospermia factor (AZF) regions on Yq11. Loss of testis-expressed Y-chromosome genes impairs spermatogenesis, producing severe oligozoospermia or non-obstructive azoospermia.
