Hereditary papillary renal carcinoma
Synonyms: HPRCC
Overview
Hereditary papillary renal cell carcinoma (HPRCC) is a genetically determined predisposition syndrome for type 1 papillary renal cell carcinomas, which are often bilateral and multifocal and usually manifest between the ages of 50 and 70. It is caused by gain-of-function variants in the MET proto-oncogene, which cause excessive kinase activity and thus increased cell growth. There are currently no preventive recommendations for carriers, but an annual MRI scan of the kidneys is suggested.
