Lysinuric protein intolerance
Synonyms: Lysinuric protein intolerance, LPI
Overview
Lysinuric protein intolerance is caused by impaired transport of the cationic amino acids lysine, arginine and ornithine across the basolateral membrane of enterocytes and renal tubular cells, leading to functional urea-cycle impairment, postprandial hyperammonaemia and progressive multiorgan disease. It is more common in Finland and Japan.
