Overview
Protein C is a key enzyme in the regulation of coagulation and inflammation. It inactivates factor Va and VIIIa, inhibits thrombin formation and coagulation, and exhibits anti-inflammatory activities. Protein C deficiency is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner and is characterised by variable penetrance. The condition is caused by pathogenic variants in the PROC gene.
