Bicuspid aortic valve with risk of aortic valve stenosis and dilatation
Synonyms: BAV
Overview
Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most common congenital cardiac malformation and is characterised by the presence of two aortic valve leaflets instead of the usual three. Although often diagnosed as an isolated finding, BAV may occur in a familial setting and is associated with an increased risk of aortic valve disease and dilatation of the ascending aorta.
